S. mutans doesn't "dig" dead teeth??

2005-04-16 02:35:40 AM
One of my lower molars has been dead for over 20 years
now. At first it had a crown made of amalgam. I think
it lasted at least 10 years before I wanted the amalgam
displaced by less "dangerous" material (sorry, can't
recall what it's called in English). After the root
canal it's never been treated because of caries. Is
it possible that s. mutans does not "like" teeth that
are dead after root canal? Almost all the other ones of my
teeth need to be treated because of caries, say,
every two or three years. My dentist is almost appalled
by my proneness to caries. That dead tooth seems to
be an odd exception.

I dunno. I never asked.

All the dentists I've asked about that claim
live teeth are more robust, or whatever. Obviously
they have asked. I'm afraid s. mutans
is a liar! But s/he is clever, too! :)

This is true, live teeth are more robust.
